![]() ![]() But what most people know about Unitology stems from its ultimate goal of Convergence, which is left largely unexplained in EA Motive's recent Dead Space remake. Unitologists are very selective about who they bring into their fold, as the group seems to share characteristics with conventional cults and fraternities. It makes sense that Dead Space's largest fictional religion is shrouded in mystery. While the CEC unearthed these artifacts by accident and EarthGov wanted to harness the Markers to solve Earth's energy crisis, the Unitologists' motives are less clear. The Concordance Extraction Corporation (CEC), Earth Government (EarthGov), and Unitologists all play a part in humanity's interaction with the alien Markers. That is also why Isaac, being an engineer, had a mind suitable enough to take in the information on how to build a Marker, while anybody else not smart enough turned insane within a short time frame and most likely started the killings necessary for a necromorph outbreak. While Dead Space's Necromorphs are the franchise's biggest enemies, they wouldn't have attacked humanity had people not meddled with powers they did not fully understand. And then, all the smart unitologist worked on how to identify more effectively those who are likely to join. So, with the Black Marker being on Earth, it's influence most likely spread over the whole Solar System, to a somewhat reduced degree, and thus, the dumber and more gullible someone was, the more easily they were roped into Unitology, but much more easily than with any other religion, because the Marker's influence turned their free will and rationality into blind faith. By the end of the Dead Space 2, there's a log from one the scientist working on the new Red Marker saying that the smarter someone is, the more they see the purpose of the Marker as "it speaks" to them, and the dumber someone is, the quicker they become insane when exposed to the Marker. ![]() Basically, it was all the influence of the Marker. ![]()
